Life is... good!
The newlyweds had a fantastic weekend!

I'm pretending I'm on a honeymoon, even though I'm not really. That's why your kids haven't gotten their birthday presents / cards yet and you haven't gotten your thank you notes. :)

I guess I could say it started on Thursday evening when Matthew took me to the Opera. The best one I've seen yet. Die Tote Stadt aka The dead city. Fantastical, bizarre, wonderful!

Friday night after a long day at work we met a co-worker of Vince's at a bar in the Castro, where I was the only female amongst a bunch of burly gay men. Interesting... something to do once a year...... We finished the evening in a burger joint with new found friends, great conversations, a yummy chicken sandwich and beer battered onion rings. Yum.

As usual, Saturday morning, I woke up put on my walkin' shoes, grabbed a coffee from the garage cafe around the block, and was on my way to the Farmer's market..... Last week on my walk I was surprised with a parade of techno music and vibrantly colored outfits for the Love parade. This week, I stopped and helped every tourist that looked lost --and there were a lot of them this weekend-- Then I picked out a bounty. Fresh limes and lemons, some new olive oil, grapes, nectarines, really yummy dates, green beans, zucchini, tomatoes, lettuce, an asian pear, an apple, avocado... and the most exciting two things of the week -- brussel sprouts still on the stalk and a half a chicken from Marin Sun Farms http://www.marinsunfarms.com/partners.html . I have a bouquet of brussel sprouts!

After walking back from the market and unpacking my jewels of the week, yummy healthy food, I met Vince at a local backyard cafe for a quick bite to eat. My first meal of the day. The cafe had Zapps potato chips (native to Louisiana for those of you who don't know what I'm talkin' about). We sat and enjoyed the lovely weather. Heard some loud noises overhead and realized it was fleet week. Planes were flying through the sky. I finished my snack and promptly went up to the roof of the apartment to watch the end of the aerial acrobatics by the blue angels. We went back downstairs put on our gear and were off on the moto. Vince took me up the 1 from Ocean Beach. I watched the waves crash into the shore, then into the sheer cliffs once on our way to Half Moon Bay.... Guess what I saw on the other side of the road. Brussel sprout stalks. :)

The sun set on our way back home, so I took Vince to the local chocolate shop for a hot chocolate. I got ginger and caramel, Vince got roasted hazelnut. They were so rich I couldn't even finish. Went home and made dinner of pork chops and those brussel sprouts roasted in olive oil. Spent the evening bar hopping with Bear and Vince.

Sunday I slept in until noon. Made brunch, then a margarita with those limes and lemons. Got on a crazy outfit and was off to Burningman decompression. http://www.burningman.com/blackrockcity_yearround/special_events/decompression/
We danced our butts off in the sun all day long. It's been a long time since I danced like that!

Spent an un-eventful day at work today, then meet my hunny at the gym for a bit of climbing. Got home just before 10, looked in the fridge and decided to bake that half a chicken, roast the fingerling potatoes from last week's market trip, and saute those green beans for a late dinner. An entire meal of farmers market fixins' from the elephant garlic, onions with the greens still attached and olive oil, to the half chicken. It was the best meal I've had in recent memory.

All that to say. We (Vince and I and everyone this email is being sent to) are lucky! We have access to good plentiful food, we have good friends, we have our health, and wonderful families. We have roofs over our heads, we have cars and clothes, and computers and anything and everything we could want. Remember this. And share the love..... And remind me next time I complain. :)

Sorry for the mass email. I love you all, and I promise I'll get around to all other that stuff.

Denise
